Wisdom and Spiritual Warfare

“Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me.”  Psalm 119:98. The word “wiser” is the Hebrew word hokmah, which has the meaning of a special skill and/or ability. This verse teaches that God’s word equips you for spiritual warfare with hokmah.

It also teaches that the front line of spiritual warfare is in your mind. Wisdom overcomes the enemies of God. If you remember, it was desire for wisdom that was the bait for the first temptation (Genesis 3:1 – 6). Through faith in Jesus you have the mind of Christ and the wisdom of God, which defeats the world, the flesh, and the devil.

The wisdom of God enables you to see the clear difference between good and evil, the difference between the truth and the lie. When you choose the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God (the truth) in the light of His wisdom, the enemies of God flee from the light in defeat. Each step you take in the victorious light of God’s wisdom reveals more and more lies that you have believed and weakens the power of sin in you life.

You fight with victory rather than for it. Christ has already defeated the world, the flesh, and the devil. The truth of God’s word sets you free. This is what it means to worship the Father in spirit and truth.

The ability to walk in His victorious light and power is what hokmah enables you to do. The light of hokmah reveals to you that the prison doors of sin are not only opened, but are gone! The Lord Jesus has taken them far, far away! Hallelujah!!! You have the ability to walk out and never look back.

Today, thank God for His word and the hokmah, the spiritual ability, He has given to you in Christ. Memorize and meditate on Matthew 4:4, “But he answered, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Notice the context.

Tomorrow, more on this word, the source of hokmah.
